2019 - April

On March 27, 2019, Regional Institute of Central Asia held the 14th Discussion on “Russia and Central Asia (Stages of Forming Relations)”. The study was conducted by Orozbek Moldaliev, Ph.D. (Political Science), National Coordinator of the Association of Central Asian Experts. Kuban Mambetaliev, an adviser to RICA, was as moderator.

Professors from universities (KSNU, AUCA, KRSU, KEU, Ala-Too International University), political experts, journalists, and students attended the discussion.

In his speech, the speaker presented the results of a theoretical and analytical study of the stages of the formation of relations between Russia and Central Asia.

Today, none of the centers of gravity can claim a dominant position in Central Asia. So far, none of the external forces has consolidated here, but it is necessary to note the importance for the region of support from Western countries as an external stabilization factor. At the same time, Russia has a huge resource here that no other state possesses. This is the pro-Russian mood of the social strata of the population of the region. Of course, there are positive and negative assessments of Moscow’s policy. On the whole, it can be said that responsible foreign policy for Central Asia and Russia is just beginning. In this process, a clearly defined strategy of Moscow in the new geopolitical conditions is important.

As a result of the study, recommendations were made that substantiate the need for the principle of interdependence in the system of regionalization.
