On December 12-December 2020, the Regional Institute of Central Asia holds the final conference in the framework of the project “Enhancing the competencies of young girls from rural areas of Kyrgyzstan through STEM education (science, technology, engineering and mathematics)” with the support of the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives.
The project is aimed at teaching young girls from rural areas of Issyk-Kul region through STEM methods and technologies, as well as improving the skills of secondary school teachers in the region in applying these methods in teaching. This project was made possible by the support of the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives.
The final conference will summarize the results of the project, which was implemented by the Regional Institute within three months. During this short period of time, a lot of activities were carried out: trainings for teachers and lecturers of the University, a STEM camp for 20 girls, pilot classes using STEM techniques and technologies.
Participants of the first kick-off meeting, TOT, as well as girls who participated in the STEM camp and their parents were invited to the conference. In addition, representatives of the employment center, non-governmental organizations dealing with the problems of girls and women, youth centers in Karakol, as well as volunteer organizations were also invited.
Beneficiaries will share their experience, lessons learned, benefits and the need for STEM education in rural areas, the importance and role of the project. The conclusions made at the conference will help form the basis of recommendations for discussion with regional departments of education, as well as the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic in the preparation of educational programs in these disciplines. Girls ‘ opinions will be useful in building a scenario learning, in the organization of their didactic support and assistance, as well as in the preparation of subsequent project proposals.
The conference is being held in the conference hall of the Karavan hotel from 9.30-14.00.
